Hi Ian,
I can't think of any 6 volt electric fan units, I certainly have never come across any.
The Series E had a fan attached to the dynamo, the only thing I can think of is to up the number of blades from 2 to 4 to try and increase the flow of air at slow speeds.
Cheers

Re: Long distance Minors
My longest trip was 210 miles in one day, Blanford Forum to Aberaeron in 7 hrs. Over the whole VMR summer rally we did about 600 miles and all with a duff battery so hand cranking all the time! This was longer than Bath to Aberaeron that we did the previous year. Your trip across the States sounds f...

Bluemell wheels are still available Ian, from John Kimble, Kimble Engineering - johnkimble.co.uk - but sit down when you ask for a price!

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon
You can get DKH's that run the other way. However as a test wire the balance weights up so they can't move, this will stop any unwanted ignition timing issues and stop any noise from the weights.

Re: Steering drop arm
Ian is right you need to have the steel plate in between the pump and the adapter. This needs to be quite flat to get a good seal and have a hole drilled in it at the appropriate place. Bumps as Ronald says are a problem, I dented the oil filter on my M type quite easily with this set up although I ...

I think I have a couple of these in my tool box, the feeler guage bit has broken off - I'll dig them out as I don't need them anymore.

I used 140 in both but agree with Trevor that the gearbox needs warming up before you get a smooth gear change.

Re: Insurance Value
Hi Both, I would argue that the market value and insurance value are two very different beasts. Many clubs used to put insurance value up to try and protect cars that were damaged particularly as repairs to vintage and classics can be so expensive and also I belive to reflect some of the historical ...

Re: 4.00X19 Tyre Size
Hi Peter, Yes the 4.00x19 do rub on the wings on full lock. I had a 1929 car so they also rubbed on the brake rods! I solved the problem by turning some larger cotton reels to limit the movement of the steering drop arm. They fitted in place of the existing steering box stops which hold the steering...

Re: Overcharging
Often this method was used to lower the voltage in the ignition warning lamp but I don't think this was used on the ohc Minors. My understanding wsa that the summer/winter charge resister was in the dynamo or on the back of the dash panel, but I am sure others will put the matter right if I am wrong...

Re: Overcharging
One thing springs to mind and that is to check that the removable cover on the dynamo is not touching the brushes, there should be a gasket under the cover but over time this gets worn and can fall out. The wires and brush holders can short to the cover. The other thought is that moving the third br...

Re: Overcharging
Hi Peter, Dynamo's are a myterious area and I am sure there are others with more knowledge than me - however to start us all off some back ground would be good. Has this dynamo been working over the last few months, or is it a new installation on a restored car? What type of dynamo - DEL or DSS? Do ...
Re: VG 3260
Toby the 10/6 Specials had a higher compression ratio bought about by a dome on the top of the piston. However for both the 10/6 and the 10/6 special the pin to deck height is different to a Minor so the piston will not come up flush with the top of the block. My Minor (DF) has these domed pistions ...
Re: VG 3260
I am not sure where you are all going with the high compression pistons - the pistons in and M type and a Minor come up to the top face of the block - if they come over this you have to be very careful that the piston and top ring do not catch on the head gasket. On Mini's and the like this is done ...
Re: VG 3260
The M type's original power output has been something that has puzzled me of late. The Minor was rated at 20bhp and the early M types were always written up as 20bhp as well but they had a higher compression ratio and a larger carb/manifold. So surely they must have had a greater bhp than a Minor. T...
