What is the temperature to anneal a solid copper head gasket, please?
If this is possible to do in a domestic oven, is it acceptable to lay it on a steel sheet, or must there be insulation or spacers between? If so what material is suggested?
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks
Hugh

Re: solid copper head gasket
Hello Hugh, and welcome to the Forum.
My understanding is to heat until cherry red, so an oven would not get it hot enough. Most people use a propane torch, and then quench in a bucket or similar of cold water.
Not so sure about how to support it.
I have also seen, "Wipe clean then use a very thin layer of High - temp Permatex silicone to surfaces before dropping the head down on it. Run the engine to full temp then re-torque head again."\
Hope this helps.
