Hello all, Semi Sports drawings.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I don't have a Minor or a M type but would like it make a 3/4 scale of a Minor sports.

I make and race cyclekarts and would like the Minor to be my next project. I'm hoping to acquire some information on where I could get blueprints on the Minor so that I can re-scale the drawings to suit my needs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Noel, and welcome to the forum.

I've been looking at the cyclekarts and they look great fun. It would be super to add a Minor to the lineup of cyclecarts created so far.

If you can identify the model you'd like to base your cyclekart on, I'll do my best to provide the info and drawings you will need.

Thanks Ian, it would be the sports/ semi sports ? Think that's what they are called, its the one with the boat tail.
Although I do like Howard Dixon's 1931 SV Minor special.
I think either would look extremely well as a cyclekart .

Noel,

The Semi-sports would be a suitable candidate as it was a standard Morris offering and there are about a dozen survivors. Also, they were only supplied in one colour scheme (maroon over black), so your cyclekart would be immediately recognizable - at least to the Minor fraternity! And perhaps it would be the first fabric-bodied cyclekart?

I own one of these (below) and have most of the (full scale) body patterns.

That's a very nice pair of cars you have, especially the Semi-sports . Were they covered with linen and then doped?

It will be a while before I get started on the Morris as I have to finish the Vale Special I'm working on first.

Prepare yourself for a few questions when the time comes. I like to get things as accurate as possible.

Thanks. No, not Irish linen and dope like aircraft of the time.

Just a layer of wadding and then Rexine fabric. This fabric is readily available if you want to use it.

Thats a start made to drawing the Semi Sport. Some dimensions of the cross members i have had to guesstimate as the drawings i have found didn't give a size. Hopefully I'll get a bit more done in the coming days.

Hi Noel,

That looks like a very accurate drawing of the Minor chassis. I have a bare chassis in my workshop, so if you let me know which dimensions you need, I can supply.

If you could get me the dimensions of the middle two cross members, that would be great. What width is the cutout in the cross member? I have it about 7".
Is the entire cross members channel/ c section?

I'll have to grovel under one of my Minors to take the measurement because the bare chassis i have is for m McEvoy Special which had cut-off cross member outriggers.

But the drawing below should be useful for you. Yes, the cross members were of constant upsude down U section.

And here's a shot of my Semi-sports before bodying, showing the cross members quite nicely. Note that their outer ends are chamfered - presumably so that they were not too visible under the edges of the running boards which they supported.

Looking tremendous, Neil.

CAD is one skill I really wish I had.

Note the castings on the rear cross member that take the front of the rear springs so that they are parallel, while the front springs are parallel to the chassis side rails.

CAD is easier than you might think. I started with Fusion 360 as it was free for personal use and taught myself with the help of YouTube videos about 1 1/2 years ago.

Lars Christensen's tutorial videos are excellent. Start with something small. My first project was a battery box for a RC car. As you learn new techniques you can incorporate them into your projects.
