I also found one online, but it seems to cost a bomb. Follow the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SPARTON- ... _500wt_955

It does look good, though. Try an offer perhaps?

Hi Ian,

Well, if Kartik does not want the 12V Sparton, I might be interested if its the right kind but 12v instead of 6v. I have a 12v system with no immediate plans to change over to a 6v system, so it should suit me. How much would it be ?

Oh, and Kartik asked first, so I am not going to rob him of the chance, if he wants it, he gets it and I settle for the 6v one.

Hi Parth,

Understood! Perhaps I should simply send both out and you can sort them out between you! I think Kartik is looking for a 6V. The 6V one I have says "needs new armature' on the front part of the horn, but I think it may have been replaced anyway - as it is currently in two pieces.

The 12V one is identical to the 6V one except that the maker's plate is stamped 12V instead of 6V.

Should I send both over to you?

Probably GBP 50 for the 12V one, and GBP 30 for the 6V?

Ian,

I am re-wiring the car to be a 12 V and that would suit me better,
that said , I have been told by friends here that a 6 v horn works as well
with a 12 v Battery.

Has anyone tried that ?

cheers
Kartik

On to the subject of " Hood Fastners"

I am looking for the fastner which would be fitted to top hood rail, to locate on to the peg on windscreen frame.

Came across this at vintage supplies,

is this the correct part ? if not, a picture please.

Thanks
Kartik

I seem to remember an article in a VMR magazine about converting a 6v sparton klaxon to 12v, I think one has to rewind the field coils with twice the number of turns with wire with half the Area of the original wire. The Ampere Turns remaining the same.

Simon,

I'll take a look. I just checked the Tech Topics arfticles in the Members' Area and there are lots missing. I'll see if I can get the missing ones uploaded.

Kartik,

Not quite correct. I have a tourer screen in my workshop at present which is on its way from the UK to New Zealand. I'll see if I can get some photos of the correct fitting and screw. Watch this space.

I'll also get the two Spartons packed this weekend.

Parth, Kartik,

Do either of you know anyone near Patna? If so, I might have an interesting project.

No one that I know in Patna, but it should not be too much trouble locating someone. Also, I asked my restorer, but he says that a 6v horn won't work. Hold the packing of the 6v horn just yet, at least till we can get something more concrete on the conversion process. Oh, and could you have the conversion and restoration of both horns sorted out there for us ? Having it done here might be a problem for both Karthik and me.

And Ian, don't just give us small hints and go off to sleep !! Your night is our day. How do you expect us to go through the day without knowing what the project in Patna is ? :D
