As for the bumper , we'd have to go in with this one, will get the grooves cut,
are the dimensions of both the front and rear bumpers same ?

The rear bumper in my car seems to be a little broader than the front one,
will re-look at the shop tomorrow.

Incidentaly , I would like to tell you that I am myself into metal finishing business,
my family owns and runs an copper-nickel- chromium plating unit, where for years we plated
bumpers and parts of the erstwhile fiats and Ambassadors ( morris variant ) and later on for Maruti suzuki for their rims.

However post 1991 we manufacture mild steel hangers( for clothes) which are then plated at our plant.
so chroming the car parts would be a child play for me.

The front and rear bumpers were near identical - all except for the drilled holes to take the different bumper supports. If your rear one is slightly too long, you could cut and shut it and fabricate an oval cover plate for the join using your original front one as a pattern. Lucky that you have the original front bumper as a pattern.

Here is the original number plate and TF201 I have ready to go on the McEvoy. Hopefully, the photo shows the pressed edge, around the attachment bolt holes and area around the lamp quite well. I could trace around it full size and put that in with your other parts if that would help, Kartik.

(Note - the four small holes in the flat area of the plate are not original, but were drilled at some point to attach a separate number plate.)

Is it possible to source a new camshaft for the Ohv minor ? the cam shaft in my car needs re-machining.

You should absolutely get hold of a copy of his spares catalogue - particularly before you start any engine work.

The M Type Double Twelve cam will give you a useful increase in performance over the original cam. You might also consider skimming the head to a depth of exactly 3.5" which will give you the original M Type compression ratio.

Well, we fired the engine again today , and it was much better than the last time,
the cam worked fine, now the next area of attention is the oil pump and the pistons.

so taking off the engine from the car now for further care.
The zenith carb that the car has doesnt have a float so today we fired it by using a carb
from a ford model A.

Meanwhile my friends at the workshop suggested that we can go in with the Su carbs which
came with the later Morris 8's and the even later morris minors........is that so ?

Well done Kartik.

You could fit a later SU - but would just have to fabricate a small flange adaptor because the later carbs had vertically-aligned attachment bolt holes.

Well , the engine is off and now we need a set of four pistons and rings .
Could someone tell me what would be the part number for the 1930 ohv for the above.

so clues please , I have already emailed JP pistons and Barry walker for quotes.

And now I am confused about the engine number, attached are two pictures.....however the stamping on the side of the block is 18991 A.

Another marking is 29 11 29.

Hi Kartik,

Nothing unusual here, but your engine has been changed at some point. The 29 11 29 is the casting date, the MC 7795 is the casting part number and the engine number is 19881. The A refers to tiny bore oversizes in the original block when it was standard bore, and can be ignored. Most blocks are A, some are B and I have have come across one or tow C.

Well , I got a little carried away when we first fired the engine and thought it would be easy from there-on.
But as we got into fine tuning and checking the engine, we have come across one small hurdle after another
which I think makes it more interesting, frustrating too at times.

Till now we have fixed the Dynamo, Cam shaft , and the head, looking for pistons now and hopefully
will be able to procure them in India.

Meanwhile, I am getting a gasket made here and hope that by 20 th of this month we can move a little forward.

Most of the parts are listed somewhere or other, but I have still to come across a pair of side lights Lucas 1120's.

Any clues for them

I had thought that once the engine work was done, would go forward and remove the body for restoration,
but in the last few weeks , while we have been working on the engine and waiting for the pistons, we started working
on the Springs , shockers , Brakes , Diffrential etc.

1 spring was broken and was replaced, brake liners were re-made/fitted , shockers overhauled
and the entire diffrential was opened , checked , cleaned , repaired and refitted.

What we have been doing is to open a part, repair it and put it at the right place back again,
as dont want to loose anything.

Also removed the wings, the body is in super shape, little rust , no holes, the wood on the floor was damaged
in parts , but most of it is in good shape.

Once we get the pistons , would commence work on the engine.

Also need some help on the Hood of the car, I have a rather weak Bracket to support the Hood frame
on the side of the car, looks like a later addition ,

secondly need a picture of the back of the car.

The hood fabric , when I got the car was nailed ( fixed ) into the body , I think there should be a wooden frame
to hold the fabric, If some one could post a picture would be obliged.
