Thank you so much Highlander,
It was good to meet you and have cup of tea and a chat. Nice place. Have you got your xr3i Escort working now? The Humber is an absolute peach!
I have fitted the spares you gave me and they will certainly serve for the next few years.
Once I got under the car I found the rear coupling was actually split open so it was no wonder I had the vibration problems.
Personally, I think Simon and Ian's advice to "floor it" up Prescott Hill Climb last summer was to blame
Hope to see you again at an event soon.
All the best
Colin
Chris, Glad to have been some help. A breath of fresh air to find a minor owner who drives his car!!!! I do not know what it is about Minor owners who are always fiddling and seldom driving. All other make of vintage or old car all fiddling is done on the hoof and seldom laid up for days, weeks, months and more often years. Here endeth another lesson!!! Humber out today in warm sunshine - is the winter over? Highlander
In spite of managing to replace the couplings (Many thanks Highlander), I have decided to put new ones on
I have contacted the company that makes these couplings (GMS Polymer Engineering Ltd) and got a quote.
I shall order a few so if anyone wants any please let me know before 13 March.
There is a discount if i can order 10 from them.
Less than 10 cost £64.48 each.
10 cost £46.04 each.
If I get a big response they may do a better price for 20+
The price includes VAT and delivery to me, so I would simply add postage.
Please respond on this thread and email me with you details so i can send to you when i receive them.
Mine is colin@shobizsalons.com
Good move Colin. I also got a quote from them when they started advertising in the automobile and thought about doing the same thing.
Perhaps the time has now come to set up a Minor spares section as many other registers do. If we do this it should be done together with the Prewar Minor lot.
All comments most welcome.
I think the idea of a spares section is great. However a considerable investment has to be made to stock items.
We could however encourage all members to check with suppliers when we buy special items like this for bulk/multiple purchase discount, and to put the word out to members for interest.
Perhaps Ian might be a point of contact so that he could email / publish the item to all members (not just forumists)
Maybe this should be a new thread Ian
An update.
I am in contact with Mike Dowley from Sports & Vintage Motors (MMM Spares) who says he wishes to buy 10 couplings for his stock.
I have suggested that since he is geared up for this sort of thing anyway and he is relatively local to the GMS factory, he could take over the ordering and distribution. (He can collect from them and so keep delivery costs down.) He can probably gain a better discount than me, so he could sell to us for around the £50 mark and still make a small margin for himself.
I'm very happy with that arrangement - Mike generously sponsors the VMR Summer Rally every year, and we would all be the worse off if it were not for his splendid services to our cars.
We as a Register have struggled over the years to co-ordinate sufficiently worthwhile batch manufacture of spares - so I think the best policy is to work with people like Mike and Ian Harris in order to ensure a good supply of spares for our cars.
I quite agree with you Ian.
I have an email from Mike to say he is going to the factory towards the end of this week to place the order.
Would everyone care to order their couplings from Mike now please via http://www.SportsandVintage.co.uk
I will "divert" any emails I get to Mike.
Cheers all.
Just to keep everyone informed....
Mike contacted me today to say he has ordered the couplings and should receive delivery in 3-4 weeks time
I know he has only ordered a limited number so best to get your order to him asap to avoid disappointment and get a share of the bulk discount he acheived.
(No. I am not on his payroll yet )
Good morning from New Zealand to one & all, my name is Jim.
I have a question for Jeremy, can you still supply the fabric joints for a 1931 Morris Minor please??
