From Midget to Roaring Raindrop.

Post by SV_Minor »

It sadly appears that Greene King brewery has buckled under a petition calling on them to change the name of the pub in Abingdon. The pub is currently closed for refurbishment. When it reopens it'll be named The Roaring Raindrop, after the car (MG EX181) that Stirling Moss drove to a land speed world record of 246mph at Bonneville Salt Flats in 1957. The road the pub sit on is still called Midget Close.

Here's a piece Autocar has done on the record breaking MGs. www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/from-the-arc ... reaking-mg

Total woke insanity.

Find me three people who are truly offended by the name. And if we shut down everything in the world that offends someone (or someone who thinks someone else might be offended), we would be well on our way back to the stone age.

I'm pleased to see the woke tide being turned back in the States, starting with my old company Boeing closing their DEI department and turning their focus instead to hiring on a merit basis (what a concept), so perhaps they can concentrate more on make planes that don't fall out of the sky. Offended? How do you think the families of the 346 passengers and crew who died on those 737's feel?

Abbott is one of my favourite ales, but I guess I've had my last pint of it.

End of soapbox. Let's focus on enjoying our cars, including our M.G. MIDGETS!

I've just now discovered that the key fob for the MG Cyberster (stupid name) is shaped like EX181 and has The Roaring Raindrop embossed on the underside.
