Vintage Minor Register

I have put together a spreadsheet that list the spares that I have for sale along with an asking price. Not sure how to upload the spreadsheet (Ian, are able to upload it someway?), so if you are interested in any of the bits, eMail me (JPallis001@AOL.Com) and I will send you a copy of the list.

Could I put my name on thre electric wiper motor - lot 6? The McEvoy has one of these as fitted originally, but I'm not sure of the state it is in.

Looking at your front road springs, the main leaves seems to be the top leaf:



Also, the top clamp plates don't seem to have the facility to attach a shock absorber (but these plates can quickly be swapped).

If these springs are indeed the correct length for the Minor and they are Morris, then it's hard to understand what other vehicle they might be from!

The photo below shows two of my front road springs. The flat one is a Morris original (oval leaves) from my fabric saloon - the other (with the correct curve is a replacement spring (square leaevs) from my McEvoy. Both springs have their main leaves somewhere in the middle. I doubt whether this is important, but we seem to have two original springs here with very different leaf geometry. Could other forumists take a quick look at their springs to see if anyone has springs with the main leaf on the top?

Does this Part number help? It does not match the numbers that I can see in Harry Edwards's book? His book does show the main spring as being 'sandwiched'?

Here's my original McEvoy spring from May 1933 - manufactured by William E. Cary Ltd. of Red Bank, Manchester and featuring their Unicorn logo. (The McEvoy chassis was laid down 22nd May 1933.)

The leaf spring on may car (Sv2612) has the main spring in middle (e.g. third from top).

This has been nagging at me all day - then it came back to me. I have seen springs just like John's - on a Minor - before. On my old Semisports JN 570!

These were square-ended springs, but the leaf arrangement is identical to John's springs - even down to having just two spring clips instead of the standard four. The fact that we now have an original spring in captivity to the same design is fascinating. Are these springs from a later Morris - Morris 8 or an MG perhaps?

John's springs certainly look like M8 but I believe the 8 springs were longer, I recently bought some (allegedly) Minor springs but they don't seem to conform to anything although they do "look" Morris! I will try and get them out tomorrow and photograph and measure.

This discussion is very interesting and learning for a beginner as myself. I first though that the front road springs of my SV were too flat. BUT after a lot of cleaning and some "exercise", like bending and jumping on the springs (funny and adventurous experiment for an old man), the spring now shows an impressive curve. It seems that years of dirt and rust (and lack of exercise) has made the springs to solidified in a certain load.
Could it be as simple as that???

I have today been informed that the Part Number shown on the front springs is a Morris 8 number, and that the rear spring with the large front eye/rubber insert is for an early Morris 8.
