VMR Car of the Year

Following on from the discussions in the virtual pub over Christmas regarding encouraging more of ourt cars out onto the rad and into events, how about instigating a Car of the Year award in our Tenth Anniversary year - similar to that organized annually by the MMM Register. We have many members who enter (and gain awards at) VSCC and LCES events, and these would be relatively easy to track, and quantify the results. But of course, that would only cover the vintage models and VSCC members. Can we come up with a set of events and a formula that includes everyone - including overseas members? And would it be a good idea to include a Newcomer award in order to encourage some new blood out onto the open road? Coming up with a formula that gives every active driver and his/her car equal opportunity may be tricky, but then again the MMM COTY is based on UK events only, thus excluding their overseas members. As for our own events, we could award points for spring and autumn pub meet attendance, plus our summer rally of course (to include nav rally scores, etc.). We could also include the MMM Register events for all of our M types. Would scores based on VMR, VSCC, LCES and MMM events make sense, or would that be too baised against SV owners? Could the VMR COTY form the basis of winning the Sports & Vintage Cup in future years?
