Nice photos Adrian.

You probably know that your fabric saloon FH 7004 (M27047) is the earliest 1931 season Minor on the chassis register. The first of the 1931 season cars was M27012, laid down 16/7/30 and your car was laid down two days later, as the 37th car of the season.

Although production records do not distinguish between coachbuilt and fabric saloon, we can be confident that fabric saloons were very much in the minority by this time. We only have three younger fabric saloons on the register - M32249, M33466 and M34370. M34270 was laid down on 15th June 1931, exactly a month before the end of SWB production on 15th July. So it would appear that the fabric saloon, although being made in very small numbers, nevertheless stayed in production to the bitter end.

Incidentally, M34370 is owned by member Peter Caldwell in Poynette, Wisconsin. Originally registered VG 3815 in Norwich, it was shipped to Peter in a container of classic sports car parts that he had bought in England (he runs a British sports car parts business). He had no idea that a Minor was going to be part of the consignment!

Regarding your 1934 2-seater AAO 426 (34/MS/42679), I had this down as being owned by ex-member Andy Tullis in Wiltshire. I have updated the chassis register. Previous to Andy, the car was owned by ex-member Mike Brookes who got divorced in 2013 and went to work abroad! AAO 426 was first registered 15th May 1934.

Hello Ian,

AAO 426 was, according to a copy of the local records, first registered on the 26th May 1934 to Miss Marjorie Sutton of Coledale Cottage, Braithwaite near Kendal.

It was thought to of been supplied by Graham and Roberts Ltd. who had branches in Botchergate, Carlisle and Lorton Road in Cockermouth.

No idea if you have already researched the location and found the cottage, but hopefully the two links below (if they work) should pinpoint the house for you. You should take it back one day 8)

https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/323500 ... /12/100954

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.59842 ... a=!3m1!1e3

Edit Damn! The Old-Maps link doesn't fully work. After clicking the link just click on the 1968 1:2,500 map and you'll find the cottage marked on the road heading south from the hotel in the village. There's a tennis court next to it if that helps.
