Diff Casing

I was spending an enjoyable few hours stripping a rear axle down yesterday. It was interesting but has the possibility of being expensive.

The aluminium rim that holds the front housing into the casing has broken some time in the past, it has been repaired and has clearly worked in this repaired form. It is only the rim that was broken the crackes don't extend into the body of the housing - is it ok to use again?

The crownwheel and pinion are the 7/37 set, even though the casing is stamped 9/44 has anyone got a usable correct crownwheel and pinion that I could encourage them to part with to aviod the £450 cost of a new one!

Cheers
Jeremy

Here are a couple of pages scanned from Morris Motors Service Technical Library that may be of interest.

And don't overlook the very comprehensive Rear Axle repair article (12 pages) in the Members' Area.

You could always get it ali welded?
