Should be transiting the Panama Canal any day now.
In anticipation of the arrival, I am preparing a list of recommissioning tasks, which reads as follows:
Gentle clean of coachwork, body fabric and upholstery
Fit new tyres all round, check spokes
New battery and inspect wiring for integrity and functioning
Clean out the fuel filter bowl, add fuel, check for leaks (esp. the fuel tap), check for debris in the fuel tank
Remove the cam cover and visually inspect the cam gear - lubricate If the oil is gungy, ermove and clean the restrictor pin)
Oil in the bores, turn over and check compressions
Fit new plugs, clean points, rotor and cap and check sparks
Drain oil, remove sump and clean, check pick-up pipe is clear, check for foreign bodies and refill, then hand crank to circulate new oil
Check integrity of fabric couplings
Drain gearbox and refill
Drain rear axle and refill
Fill radiator and check for leaks – may need new hoses, may need new water jacket sideplates
Remove brake drums and inspect brakes and cables, grease brake cams, adjust and check functioning
Re-pack wheel bearings with grease
Re-pack steering box and check steering wear – possibly rotate the worm wheel, check the wedges are present and correctly fitted
Grease chassis
The car last ran 35 years ago. What have I missed?
