This week I made another significant discovery. it is fascinating how our cars give up their secrets if you just never give up looking.
The chassis number is M14258. And looking in the schedule of chassis changes which you can find on the website (Site Index, Technical details), and which I assembled from the Morris spare parts list, there were significant radiator changes at chassis M14456 which were:
"Chrome plated brass replaces solid nickel radiator. Double radiator stays introduced."
But VG 2007 has a chrome radiator shell fitted. However, the radiator is of the single tie rod type.
The conclusion is that someone in the distant past, replaced the original nickel shell with a chrome one. Why would they do this? Because in the thirties, car owners were keen to make their cars look more modern, and replacing outdated nickel with state of the art chrome was a simple way to go. Just find a chrome radiator in a scrap years and the rest is just spanner work.
So I am going to replace the chrome shell with a nickel one and also fit a 'MORRIS' script on the core.
(incidentally, chassis M14257 was laid down 27/9/29 and the radiator change was made 4/10/29. However VG 2007 IS a 1930 model ans the 1930 model production commenced at chassis M12739 on 22/8/29.)
There is plenty of evidence that, when Morris made changes to his cars, then the works used up pre-change parts already in the supply pipeline, but in this case, the reverse situation applies in that the chassis number pre-dated the chassis number at which the changes were initiated.
