progress report,
Dashboard is now more or less finished , I bought a clock on Ebay to cover some nasty holes on the left side of the dash and used the material to repair some more patches on the right side.
The clocks still have to come out again to be cleaned by a friend of my father who is an ex Minor owner (SV1784) and retired jeweller. The speedometer and ammeter work fine but I still have to check the oil pressure gauge.
If someone has a nice,working and unrestored oil pressure gauge I would be interested

progress report,
The shock absorbers are finished and fitted !
All the parts needed came from Austin Reproduction Parts Ltd ( Email

Willie was very quick in telling me the lining had to be dry assembled for the best result.

Halbe, As I have said before wonderful workmanship. Do you have photographs of the rear end? The rear back plates and rear hubs? Your pictures are worth a hundred words. I missed Brooklands today (lovely day - mild!!) as I still have back hub problems and ntwo sheered studs. Highlander.

I'm working on my back axle and reading about your struggle!
I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them, only the backplates and rear hubs?
Would have loved to have been at Brookland's today!

Do you have any plans to visit the UK this year - it would be wonderful if you (and any of the other Dutch contingent) could make it in August - for the VMR Summer Rally and the VSCC's 75th. There will over a thousand vintage cars in and around Malvern for the week - and I always need an army of marshals!

I'd be interested to know how much you paid for the clock as we have had one on our Beaulieu stall for over 10 years, despite it being a Bentley fitment it's hard to sell!!!

Halbe, Thank you very much for the back plate photos. Does anyone know what that intentationn at 12 a clock does? I have been offered a pair of rear hubs to try - not the same part number!!!! Did they (the hubs) change. I read somewhere that a full width bearing was used. If so where did the felt seal go or was the hub wider? I am just asking questions as all my books state the hubs were the same. Again, Halbe, wonderful workmanship - do you work??? Aye Highlander.

I can't swear to it as I don't have my car or my spares here to ckeck, but I think the indentation at 12 o'clock is for clearnace of the brake pulley when the backplate is fited to the front axle. The same part is used front and rear, but if if you look at the securing bolts, they are upside down with respect to one another front and back - if you see what I mean, and the indentation is to provide clearance for the front brake pulley when fitted under the kingpin as on early OHC Minors.

I think you are absolutely right about the backplates
They look the same as the front ones, only upside down!

Harking back to an earlier post somewhere, and looking at the photo of your diff., did we ever decide what that brass plug on the side of the diff. casing is for?

The only purpose i can see is that it is there as an oil level plug, there is nothing behind it except a passage to the diff.
I might be wrong ,probably am, any other idea's
