The radiator surround looks as though it has been painted black to me as has the windscreen surround.
Also are the wierd patches on the lower bodywork normal. Also do they extend to the lower part of the door or is it my eyes are even worse than I think? Should there be side lamps?

Thanks for that Tony, did the black paint extend to the wind screen surround? i have enlarged the picture and I don't think it is reflection but if it is why is it a double reflection. Also the bottom of the door looks a bit ridgy..

Hi Clive,
If you take a look at the second eBay picture of the car you can see that 'the patch' is just a reflection in the paintwork of the aluminium strip that clads the edge of the running board. The second image shows that reflection in a different place. Most, if not all, production 1931model Two Seater Tourers had the screen souround painted black. The reason I say 'most' is that I have a photograph of a prototype with a chrome screen souround, whereas all other contemporary images I have of the car show the screen souround in black.
Chris
PS No side lamps fitted to 1931 onward two seat tourers (side light bulb incorporated into headlamp shell)

"interesting"? to note that on the M.Reg. chilterns spring run (sunday) we went to see a members mini museum and as i own a 32 tourer i was drawn to the 1932 sales poster. I was surprised to see my tourer with chrome finishes on there at £100 ex works, I thought the £100 cars all had paint finishes but clearly in '32 Morris upped the game?
Toby,
Almost certainly Morris only kept the black painted screen souround for that 'half' season Jan - July 1931. The 1932 brochure description lists the screen souround as being chromium plated! Rad for 32 was also chrome as were the headlamp rims, although I believe these were also chrome for the Jan 1931 launch cars. See below:
I was always under the impression that for the 1932 season, the chrome radiator two seater with a four speed gearbox cost something like £105 ex works. There was a three speed version on offer (with chrome radiator) at £100.
Can somebody confirm this as I could well be mistaken.
The grey tourer on e-bay at present looks perfectly correct to me.
Searching through my catalogues gives us this answer !
Introduced as the £100 minor for the 1931 season , with black radiator surround , the two seater continued into the 1932 season still as £100 with the chrome radiator [ dimpled version ] and only a three speed gearbox.
For the 1933 season , with the deeper chrome radiator and with three speed gearbox it was still at £100 , but if you wanted the four speed option it was £105 .
If you log on to the Members' Area and scroll to the bottom, you will find the Gren Strickland SV Archive. In there you will find downloadable copies of all the SV sales brochures, giving complete specs for all the SV cars.
Which brings us neatly to me having a problem getting into the members area! won't admit me or let me enter any details to try! This may deter newer members and computer greenhorns like me and should probably be posted under technical problems
