Re: Hundred Pound ash frames
I repeat my concern that a load of replica bodies (as admirable as it may be to put various collections of bits and pieces resembling a Minor back on the road, presumably with yet another Swansea re-issued modern number ) presents a very real danger that one day they are going to be passed off as or...

Re: Hundred Pound ash frames
The other further consideration which needs to be given to the building up of bitsa Minors (or any other vintage car) is that one day they will be passed off as original cars and bought by the unwary. This has happened many times in the Bullnose world and doubtless other marques as well. The other p...

Re: Hundred Pound ash frames
I agree with Mike. It would be a pity if the Minor world ended up like the Bullnose Morris fraternity where large numbers seem to have poorly made and ill-fitting replica bodies and consist of parts from numerous other vehicles. Not my idea of the vintage movement but then I'm so old that I can reme...

Re: Rear Axle.
I am no expert on this, but from what you say Alistair I reckon you have a Morris 8 diff installed in a Minor axle case. The diff might be an early pre-series 8 (1934/5) as you say that it has the flexible coupling. Equally somebody may well have swopped over the flange for one of the Minor "sp...

Re: Hybrid Royal Mail Van for sale
There are, unfortunately, many sad people about who will do anything to put a dateless number on their grotesque Chelsea Tractors.....which is why it seems that almost all our heritage of correct numbers on our pre-war cars has disappeared.

Re: grease nipples
No, the '34 season cars did not have the dipstick. Still had the vintage style rear filler level plug...incidentally the last Morris to carry this feature which started in the dawn of Bullnose Morris lore. Why do I not know anything useful ? If Alistair has a Morris 8 diff but with the "correct...

Re: grease nipples
I know the feeling well, having stepped out of the MG after a short test run staight into a bowl of warm dirty engine oil that I had just drained from it. It sounds to me if somebody has fitted a later Morris Eight diff in your car....I am not aware of any Minors having a dipstick, although of cours...

Re: grease nipples
If you are lucky enough to have the original nipples, then cherish them ! They work perfectly well if used in conjunction with the proper oil gun. I have the originals on my 10/4 and have lubricated everything with perfect ease using 140 gear oil since I took the car over from my grandfather in 1963...

Re: paint colour and design 32 2 door saloon
To the best of my knowledge, no sv saloons were ever duotone. The bodies were the same colour all over and these colours followed the normal Morris range for the year in question. Mudguards were of course black, as were the front valences...not sure about the rear on '34 season cars. Some '32 cars I...

Re: Does anyone know this car? (KFF 165)
Chris, Yes, sadly KFF is one of the Swansea replacement numbers from a little while ago. In this country, no Minor would have reached the "K" s in any series. Most were two letter and max four numbers. Some busy areas like say, Surrey, were issuing late Minors with numbers such as BPB and ...

Well, we might have done if some sod hadn't robbed the car of its identity.

Re: under the roof of a 2 door saloon 32
Colin, Most of the good pictures that I have seen have been period shots in the Morris Owner Magazine. However, they are unlikely to be of much use if you are trying to build a replica. Harry Edwards of Yesterday's Components in Essex used to sell detailed body drawings of various Morris models incl...

Re: under the roof of a 2 door saloon 32
Ian, Correct.....1932,1933 and 1934 season Minor two door saloons were all available in either fixed or sliding head versions. If I remember correctly, the 32 and 33 cars had rather a strange arrangement whereby the sliding portion and its runners sat on top of the roof whereas the 1934 cars had the...

Re: The search for SV Minors
As somebody who has owned many SV and OHC Minors over the past 45 years, let me assure you that owners of SV cars have absolutely nothing to feel inferior about. I happen to like all Minors, wherever their camshaft happen to live. However, I would say that some of my happiest, most comfortable and r...
