Re: Hartfords and the LCES
Quite amazing ! Surely, even the VSCC must realise that Hartfords were available in vintage days and fitted as standard to better class cars. Many small car owners threw away the Armstrongs and Smiths units fitted to their cars because in real use they were truly awful. How can doing this possibly b...

Re: Stewart & Ardern supplier's playe in eBay
Quite agree. In fact this small celluloid plate would look far more in keeping with a Minor than the period glassed enamel one. They look fine on a larger car. What with this glassed enamel plaque plus the brass under-bonnet plate, there was no doubt where your MM or MU registered Morris car came fr...

Re: Stewart & Ardern supplier's playe in eBay
This looks like a late thirties or even later celluloid plaque. The plaques fitted to the "MU" era cars were usually quite large oval enamel items. Quite superb, but looked rather out of place when screwed on the left side of the small wooden dash as they usually were. These cars also had ...

Re: Can anyone identify this engine?
The engine is known as the E93A and despite the VSCC snobs, it is a very good engine and by far superior in hard service to either the Cowley or Abingdon offerings I'm sad to say !! Which is why of course the old boys in the 1950's who really knew what they were doing used to put them in the J2's !!...

Ian,
Without a shadow of doubt, Ford Eight ot Ten. The dynamo mounting, oil filler, timing pin and front bearer all give it away !

Re: Rear Axle.
Having just received a very expensive SU fuel pump direct from the manufacturers that does not want to work without me taking it apart, I think I'll join you !! One thought re the Minor, it might be wise to closely examine the insides of the wheel hubs (where the nuts rest) just to make sure no crac...

Where is Four Oaks ? If it's between Everton and Epsom, should be around my way somewhere, but not heard of it !
A local meet would be good. Happy New Year everybody.

Re: Hundred Pound ash frames
Absolutely agree...this is a true no-hoper for restoration back to a 10/4 saloon, the bits simply are not there...and have not been for many a year. All running gear complete and easy to build into a good and reliable road going cycle wing special. Great fun and if a little more performance needed t...

Re: Fabric Couplings
Without doubt Mike, I'd replace them. I had a rear one looking very much like yours break up on the 10/4 a few years ago whilst pulling away from a crossraods......a very unpleasant experience and the the flailing prop-shaft did a lot of damage to the metal floor of the 10/4. This is a strong area o...

Re: Hundred Pound ash frames
We all have our different views, but if I was going to rip off what appears to be a restorable (albeit needing much effort) saloon body and replace it with some home made job which never saw the light of the Cowley works, I'd far rather just build a modern kit car which would go and stop properly in...
