An engine built from bits

I have never had a complete OHC engine, only piles of parts gathered from various sources (see "Minnie's Story" in mag M140). Recently I decided to do some sorting of same, with the aim of determining what was there and what was missing. Where possible I have been restoring and loosely ass...

Re: OHC oil restrictor pin

Just to close this out; For the benefit of anyone who has to fit a pin in a crappy old head, be advised that at the bottom of the 1/4" hole in the head there is a 3/16" hole, to accept the small end of the pin. I found this out the hard way when my 2.7inch pin would not fit properly in a h...

Re: OHC oil restrictor pin

Thanks for your posts, fellas. The pin in question is definitely brass. However in new developments I have checked a second cyl head, which is sans pin, and after cleaning the mud-hornet clay and oil gunge I can measure the hole. Also in amongst the myriad bits and pieces that I have I've found a br...

Re: SV 8159 and DUFOR shock absorbers

All, Dufor were/are? definitely an Aus company who made a wide assortment of spares eg kingpins, brass bushes, rubber bushes, gudgeon pins and myriad other items. My Minor has the same shockers, and so do others I've seen here in Oz, so I would suggest that all locally bodied / assembled cars were f...

OHC oil restrictor pin

I need sketch and dimensions of the cylinder head oil restrictor pin, also the diameter and depth of the hole it fits in. I have a cyl head with the pin frozen solid in it and the outer end broken off. I'm thinking of drilling it out, since it appears to be brass, and making a new one, but don't wan...

Re: Rear brakes

Hi again fellas,
I was about to post an urgent call for a definite answer when, while having lunch, I trawled idly through the forum and lo and behold found a thread dating back to May 2009 which covers the topic and seems to answer my question. To the rear and pointing down!

Re: Rear brakes

OOPS! My first question arose because I thought there was going to be a hell of an angle of the cable from the rear crossmember to the cam lever. Have just been studying the situation when I noticed that there would be a conflict between the brake cable/lever area and the shock absorber lower mounti...

Re: Rear brakes

OK, we agree that the cam is aft of the axle. I'll add here that the "wisdom" behind lever location on many cable systems is that when there is road spring "wind-up" under braking the rotation of the axle causes the brake cables to be pulled harder. Ask any A7 man about the front...

Rear brakes

Will someone please jog my memory to assist in re-re-restoration of "Minnie". Is the correct location of the rear brake / backing plates such that the cam is behind the axle, with the lever pointing down?

Camshafts

The mention of 12/12 shafts reminds me that I have been meaning to find out just what they are. Can anyone give me the timing data for one of these cams (i.e opening and closing angles, overlap, lift). I have a nice looking cam which may be a regrind of original, or something with better "lungs...
