Re: IA 9142

Mike, If you haven't alraedy discovered, I think the 'James Peacop' you speak of is most likely the man who regularly races an MG 'M type' special in VSCC meetings and most recently a Frazer Nash Special. Perhaps he built the M type instead? I think his father owns the McEvoy. IA 9142 looks like a g...

Re: GPO van for sale.........

Allister, Many thanks for the kind offer of the tyres. Rover's did use 26inch tyres on some cars but mine are definitely the 28inch ones. The old photo sounds very intresting. Disc wheels were fitted to all the Rover 8's apart from the 1919 proto-type. I wouldn't want you to risk your original in th...

Re: GPO van for sale.........

Progress has been slow on the Rover due to other things / work. I had a good find on ebay a few weeks ago. I bought some spare wheels and hubcaps which I'm told are like hen's teeth. My car was missing its spare and several hubcaps. I'm now trying to find some spare 28x3 old tyres so that I can roll...

Re: GPO van for sale.........

Back in May a GPO van in good restored / original condition fetched £9,300 at the Cheffins sale at the Bradworthy Tranport Museum. http://www.cheffins.co.uk/news/devon-cream-407-search/?srch=t The bargains of the sale in my eyes were the Hanomag and an Austin 7 special rumoured to have been built by...

Re: The number plate market

Is it still possible to trace a number on the DVLA website? My dad sold his 1933 minor tourer MU 6156 in about the late eighties. It was a good usable car. I've often wondered what happended to this car as I know the new owner began to pull it to pieces. When I checked the DVLA website a few years a...

Re: Motor House Wanted

A morris motor house would be great. The advert states that drawings are available from Cowley for planning applications. Old planning applications are publicly accessible so Im sure these drawings could be obtained if necessary; and depending on detail, they may be useful for a replica. I would pre...

Re: Motor House Wanted

Hi Ian, The Rover is progressing. The un-official Rover 8 register has been very helpful. I've sourced some replica front wings (the originals were missing ). The car must have been driven down some very rough cornish lanes; When I cleaned the chassis, I discovered several major cracks behind each s...

Motor House Wanted

I am in desparate need of more garage space. I have a potential site in my parents garden where I could construct something to fit a minor and hide it behind lots of laurel trees. The quicker and easier it is to construct, the more time and money I can spend on the car. Something not too permanant b...

Minor BPA 290

Grahame Fullalove has written an article in this months 750 motor club bulletin about his life with cars. It includes a 1958 photograph of his 1934 minor four seat tourer registration BPA 290. It was good to see a picture of a proper car amongst all the Austins Sevens! Does BPA 290 still exist?

Re: Modifying a sidevalve engine

I have seen Morris 8 'Alta' heads but Im not sure if they did one for the minor. However, there were many special heads for austin sevens yet many still believe that the standard Ruby is the best. Somewhere I have read (I think in an autocar article about a pre-war trials minor) that the late s.v. h...

Re: To restore or not to restore

I came across this on youtube that reminded me of Ians posting. Its the feral sports car club of Australia. A quick glance at their website shows that they pride themselves in driving old very patinated cars that have had the minimum of work done to get them on the road. The vidio includes some adve...
