Re: VG 2007
This week I made another significant discovery. it is fascinating how our cars give up their secrets if you just never give up looking. The chassis number is M14258. And looking in the schedule of chassis changes which you can find on the website (Site Index, Technical details), and which I assemble...

Re: Drive-it-Day morning run and pub lunch Sunday 27th April
I asked him about his cruising speed in his tourer. He said he used to cruise it easily at 50. I feel I'm pushing it at 38-40 in the fabric saloon, with the engine screaming. I'll have to try and work out what revs 50 equates to with a 9/44 back axle. Maybe I need to be a bit more lead-footed? (With...

Re: Lubricating Leaf Springs
It can't do any harm!
I just took a look at my rear springs on my tourer recently and they are caked with about half an inch of congealed black grease and road dirt. And they don't squeak!

Re: Drive-it-Day morning run and pub lunch Sunday 27th April
Excellent run yesterday in gorgeous spring weather. Three Minors, a Hornet and a Rolls gathered for breakfast after which we stopped in at the GWSR station at Toddington where there was a good crowd of classic from the Swindon and District Classic Car Club and about a dozen post-war Minors from the ...

Interesting find on my '29 fabric saloon VG 2007
According to the Schedule of Spare Parts, the single tie rod radiator, nickel shell and "MORRIS" radiator script were changed to the double tie rod chrome shell radiator at chassis M14465. VG's chassis number is M14258. I know that the chassis number of these changes are quite vague, but...

Gearbox oil
I have been using straight 140, but David Hinds, who is no mean engineer, highly recommends this synthetic oil: https://www.redlineoil.com/lightweight-shockproof He tells me the MMM J2 racing boys swear by it. Apparently it makes for much smoother and quicker gear changes, which has to be good.

Re: 1929 tourer WE 6554
Well I didn't take it to The Fountain - I took the fabric saloon instead - but I am getting quite a few jobs done. I am taking the front bumper to Castle Plating in Dudley on Friday. I have the bumper irons at the blacksmith for re-shaping and the addition of a couple of number plate brackets and I ...

Re: Pre-War Kyre Park and Bromyard Hill Climb - 25th to 27th July 2025
The Bromyard Hill Climb - Sunday 27th July - to which the VMR has been invited and which will conclude the Vintage Minor Register's three day Pre-War Kyre Park Silver Jubilee Summer Rally is being organized jointly with Bromyard Speed Festival (BSF) and the closing date for the hill climb entries ha...
Re: LJ 4435
Nearly a year on, so time for an update. The dynamo was sent off to Paul Rogers Engineering near Huntingdon and should finally be ready for collection in a couple of weeks. So I'm spending some time sorting some other jobs on the car in anticipation of getting it back. When I restored the car back i...

Re: Drive-it-Day morning run and pub lunch Sunday 27th April
There's certainly plenty going on right now in this area.
I'm just doing some work on the fabric saloon today to get it ready for next Sunday, including fitting a VMR badge.
See you there.

Re: 1933 Maddox Fixed head Coupe EN 5810
Paul, these are for the front hubs. The chamfered steel rings go on the stub axles first, then the hub, then the brass oiler plate and finally the nut. If you fit sealed front wheel bearings (set of four), you don't really need the brass oiler plates.
Great progress!

Drive-it-Day morning run and pub lunch Sunday 27th April
A reminder that we will be gathering for breakfast at Ye Olde Hobnails Inn, Little Wasbhourne on Sunday morning (breakfast starts at 8-30, but pitch up whenever you like - we'll probably head out around 9-30 or 10) and then taking a particularly scenic springtime amble to The Old Bull at Inkberrow f...

Jonathan,
Is the butterfly completely closing when cold and hot and with the slow running screw backed right off?
Is the piston bottoming at idle when cold and hot? if not, is the needle not perfectly centred in the jet?
No suction leaks anywhere?
Just some idle thoughts.
