Car needed in the UK
OK chaps, slightly off the vintage topic, but here goes anyway. Our daughter is in the UK and looking for a modern car over there. We travel to the UK every summer to run the rallies and visit family, English pubs, etc. So we hire a car at confiscatory rates. The thinking is to provide our daughter ...

Oil pressure
Just completed about 20 miles in the Minor Semi-sports - the first post-restoration run. Everything great except the oil pressure. 110 psi from cold is excellent, but this reduces to 15-20 psi at a hot idle after about fifteen minutes of driving. The engine is newly rebuilt with crank grind and new ...

18 bids so far, but only up to GBP 460. The inevitable questions about transferability of the registration number. Chassis number is evidently 43205, making it a spring 1934 car - which correlates with the registration number issued about the same time in Southend. It wil probably end up as yet anot...

Alister, Stem size was standard (they didn't do oversizes), but length is - as they say - important! :D OHC valves are identical to SV valves except for length. When I had my first Minor at University - a SV 2-seater, I found an original set of OHC valves in Beales of Bath (anyone remember them?). S...

Hi Steve, Welcome to the Forum! Replacing rivets with bolts is perfectly acceptible as long as you do it right with bolts tight in the holes. The absolute purist may disagree, in which case you woudl need to find a chassis repair shop (I have one which handles commercial vehicle chassis near me, whi...

I did this with the front housings for the rear springs on the Semi-sports and the rear spring hangers for the front springs. All are now bolted on - tight! My rear spring housings weren't worn (they shouldn't wear unless the pin comes unscrewed?), but the threads were useless so I machined up a cou...

Short reach here, Jeremy. Never found a source of long-reach. Have not tried adapting down, but results might be interesting, and I think offer a greater range of plugs. Small victory yesterday - after several abortive attempts, built one good dynamo from two and tested it by shorting together the t...

Leaking fuel taps
Has anybody come up with a foolproof (or fuelproof!) way of sorting Minor fuel taps? I spent a good deal of time rebuilding one for the B-P recently - new cork, tightened the nut so the lever was just about operable and wire locked it as per the original. Lovely job. But it is alreay leaking like a ...
