Re: Brooklands

Mike, I did go to Brooklands yesterday, and was disappointed by the poor vintage Morris turnout, mostly Minor 1000s and other moderns. Large number of vintage ***tins, which were pretty, but my eye was particularly taken by two Bullnoses and a 4-seat Minor tourer (reg'n EC9783). Unfortunately the la...

Re: VG 3260

I thought that I would post a progress picture, just to show that the cold weather has not forced me into total hibernation! The chassis has been blasted, primed and repaired and I am just fettling it prior to painting and reassembly. I have just ordered my first batch of new parts, mostly gaskets a...

Re: VG 3260

Hallo Halbe! I guess the seals remain if in good condition, they seem to be riveted in anyway. LIke you I intend to add any other seals that are available. It does appear to be a bit of a weak spot in the design. Perhaps someone can step in and tell us which extra seals are best? Thanks for your com...

Re: VG 3260

Dear fellow Forumists, I thought that a general update might be due. I was due to collect the shotblasted chassis today, and when I did I had both good and bad news. The rear three quarters of the chassis were very good, and looked good in the weld-through grey primer, but the front radiator support...

Re: Fabric Couplings

I'm afraid I've come into this a bit late in the day, but thought that some of the membership might find the attached photos of interest. I've recently removed these couplings off VG3260, and was surprised to find some stamped impressions on them. This would indicate that they were made by Hillman o...

Re: VG 3260

Some further pictures. The body was lifted from the chassis on Xmas Day! I thought I would make some use of my three sons and two son-in-laws and get them doing something useful! It all of two minutes to lift it clear and get it onto a home made trolley, and they had plenty to drink afterwards. The ...

Re: VG 3260

Ian,Thanks for your comments, which as usual are most helpful. I take on board the point about the integrity of the sills, I suspect that worm and rot will lead to me replacing quite a bit of timber in various parts of the frame. The previous owner I spoke with was Geoff Thornton. He really couldn't...

Re: VG 3260

Thanks to everyone for their comments so far, I am learning a great deal from all of you. In particular it seems as if the intrument panel is mostly wrong, ah well it can be put right! I think I have commented alsewhere about the colour, I do like it myself but the owner from 40 years ago tells me t...

Re: VG 3260

Thanks to Ian for uploading the photos, and for comments so far. I'll skip through the photos in order. 1. Progress continues, scuttle panel now removed, together with bonnet plates(?) and front shroud, and all electrics off firewall. 2. Woodwork in foreground is poor due to worm. The body number ca...

Re: VG3260

Ian, You will be pleased to hear that I have spoken on the phone to Bill Thornton who owned this car 40 years ago. Unfortunately he could not remember much about it, but he did dispel my impression that the paintwork might be original. Apparantly when he bought it, (for £10!), it was black and an aq...

VG3260

As a new member I thought that I would dip my toe into the water with an introductory 'first post'. Looking around for a project to occupy some retirement free time I had a rebuild in mind, having rebuilt modern sports cars and a kit car in the past. I bought my 1930 Minor, unseen(!), from e-bay, pa...
