Re: IA 9142

The engine rebuild continues, the block is away at the moment for a +60 rebore, the crank is being reground and the con rods are to be remetalled. The plugs in the crank will be removed for cleaning. Remarkably the rear bearing and flange are OK ! Incidentally Ian, the plug for the rear gallery was ...

Re: IA 9142

Time flashes by, thought I would do another post! Enquiries through the Irish DVA show that the car was first registered by a David Edgar in Antrim on the 2nd March 1931. He last registered it in March 1959, suggesting an ownership of nearly 30 years. This could of course have been longer if he then...

Re: IA 9142

Well if I need any more I'll know where to look! The compression figures came out to 65psi for each cylinder with maybe 1/2 psi variation, so that looks OK. It looks as though the gearbox will have to come out for some work on the clutch. What is the usual culprit for oil on the clutch? (The answer ...

Re: IA 9142

Ian, thanks for that. Yes it does have it's original bonnet, how did they do that? I have assumed that the metal went through a stamping or rolling process before being formed, but your comment has got me wondering whether that is correct. Have you got those compression figures?

Re: IA 9142

Regrettably I won't be getting it to Prescott, it will barely get to the top of my drive at the moment! It basically needs some serious fettling, which will take a while. I am about to do a compression test on the engine, can anyone tell me what sort of figures I should be looking for? Interestingly...

Re: IA 9142

Ian, Thank you for this interesting snippet. I am starting to piece the history of the car together, partially aided by some old correspondence. The car was indeed owned by Kieran White, who appears to have restored it to race in VSCC events, mainly at Oulton Park. (I intend getting in touch with hi...

IA 9142

Just a quick post to tell you of my new purchase, a 1930 Semisports. I had been getting increasingly frustrated at not having a mobile Minor as the rebuild of the saloon is taking so long. Through some research I had tracked down and made contact with several Minor owners in Kent and Sussex, one of ...

Re: Clutch noise

Ian, You could try Stephen Nichols at Rotherfield Gearboxes, on the East Sussex/Kent border. He's a one man show but seems to have long experience of every type of box. His workshop is a complete shambles with parts from floor to ceiling, but he seems to get the job done! He is at Forge Garage Annex...

Re: VG 3260

Ian, Most of the framing I've done myself, but I got a local joiner to do the front pillars and screen surround, they were driving me mad!! Be as picky as you like, I welcome constructive critique! The wing supports are just loose fitted to get them out of the way, I hadn't given much thought to whi...

Re: VG 3260

The head is now complete except for the camshaft, with the lengthened rocker shafts and extra support stand, and has been put away while work commences on the engine block. However the frame is now coming along, as I hope the pictures show. The Blockley tyres were obtained from MWS of Slough who als...

Re: Track rod and drag link ends

Its difficult to be completely accurate with the dimensions with the pin in the way, (and no desire to take it apart!). However the length appears to be 0.975", the wider width, 0.675", tapering down to 0.6". Hope this helps,
Mike.

Re: Track rod and drag link ends

Terry Synott and I compared track rod ends last week end, and decided that both sets had a fair amount of wear. What is difficult though is judging how much is acceptable! To err on the side of safety I obtained a pair from S&V, shown in the attached picture for comparison. Hope this helps.Regar...

Re: VG 3260

I did look at a set of (6) Hornet pistons last week, and they were flat topped and presumably offered no advantage. I also looked at some alloy Hornet rods, but it all got too esoteric and complicated for me! I think I'll stick with what I now have. I'll next check the bottom end out, and if it look...
