Lubricating Leaf Springs

The springs on my 1932 Minor are making a heck of a racket as I'm going down the road. I was wondering if brushing on some old engine/transmission oil would stop them from creaking. Is that a good or bad idea?

Re: What fuel for our Minors?

Just noticed this thread from a few years back. As an update, I've done many thousands of miles on E10 (and only E10) without any bottled additives, and the little Minor is still ploughing the King's Highways and Byways.

Ah! I thought that was Clive with the Delage. A very different machine to his old Cammy Tourer. 8)

Re: Gearbox oil

Yesterday's chat about transmission oil has just lead me to do an oil change on the gearbox. I'll take the lil Morris for a run later this evening and report back. Hopefully find a change from 90 grade to the correct 140 will improve the gear change... and the racket coming from 1st and 2nd gears :l...

Re: Engine Revs

I do have a brand new spindle and a few other parts from a Burlen kit I bought when I part-rebuilt the carburettor back in 2017. I just decided not to go too deep on the rebuild at the time.

Re: Engine Revs

Can't say at the moment. There wasn't any noticeable play between the spindle and the body, so I might be lucky.

Re: Drive-it-Day morning run and pub lunch Sunday 27th April

I'll be there Ian. I've had to decline at least 3 other invites for DID   I attended the monthly Breakfast Car Meet at The Parish Rooms, Knighton-on-Teme, on Saturday. It saw around a dozen cars, with two Morris Eight Tourers, one being a very rare Series-E. Yesterday I attended a tour of...

Re: Engine Revs

I've taken the top off the carburettor and given the inside a clean. The piston is free in movement, and drops with a good clunk onto the base. The one thing I've discovered is an air leak past the butterfly flap spindle and carburettor body. That's got to have an unwanted effect on the fuel mixture.

Engine Revs

I have a strange issue that is flummoxing me. My 1932 Minor SV has a low idle speed when the engine is cold, which can result in the engine stalling, but when hot the revs are too high. I've had to get the screwdriver on the idle screw to reduce the revs. That makes the cold idle worse when I next u...

Re: Spring pub meet at The Old Bull

Yes, we have spoken about the '33 rad surround before. I'm not too bothered by it. Most people haven't got a clue (most people have zero knowledge that Morris produced a Minor before the Izzy-Wizzy Minor of 1948-1971)

Re: VG 2007

That's interesting to learn Ian. I've taken my SV two-seater along the A456/A443/A4133 between Tenbury and Droitwich numerous times, and I've never needed to drop to bottom gear on any of the hills. Second gear, very much so, it's a hilly part of the country.. but not down to first. Might it be the ...

Another good gathering of rickety old jalopies. Looking forward to DiD on the 27th. BTW Ian, my car is a 1932 model. It celebrates its 93rd 'birthday' this coming Friday (11th) 8)

Re: Dates for April

I would probably head along the A443 to Great Witley, turn towards Droitwich at the Junction with A4133 at Holt Heath, over the Severn at Holt Fleet, through Ombersley and Droitwich, and onto the Salt Way (B4090) before turning right about a mile west of Feckingham (signposted Bradley Green). That'l...
