Re: VMR Autumn pub meet, Sunday 24th October at the Old Bull, Inkberrow

Took a bit more effort than I was expecting, but I can now say the replacement driver's door lock is fitted and working. I thought it would be a 5-10 minute job, but it ended up taking more hours than I care to think about. The issue was one that wasn't immediately obvious. With the new lock fitted ...

Re: VMR Autumn pub meet, Sunday 24th October at the Old Bull, Inkberrow

Yes, not a bad combination  When cold the oil pressure is up around 80-90psi and gradually drops over a 5-10 mile journey to around 60psi and stays there for the duration. At tickover it sits around 60-70psi cold and drops to as low as 20psi once properly hot, in line with the drop from 80+psi ...

Re: VMR Autumn pub meet, Sunday 24th October at the Old Bull, Inkberrow

Thanks Ian. The conditions were far too dry  they were even spoilt by the appearance of the big round yellow thing in the sky on Sunday!!! Managed to take two short videos in the Minor, one driving along the A44 east of Kington, the second one driving through Pembridge. www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Re: VMR Autumn pub meet, Sunday 24th October at the Old Bull, Inkberrow

Driver's door lock fell apart last weekend while on the way home from spectating at the VSCC Welsh Trial. I was thankfully able to continue the journey home as the door wasn't interested in swinging open, even on the bends  I'm hopeful I'll be able to secure a replacement lock this week so shou...

Re: VMR Autumn pub meet, Sunday 24th October at the Old Bull, Inkberrow

Good news! I've just returned from a short test drive and the new plug is holding and watertight. Fingers crossed.

Re: VMR Autumn pub meet, Sunday 24th October at the Old Bull, Inkberrow

If I can fix the issue of the core plug, see my last post in the PWP 2021 thread, then I'll certainly be there 8)

Re: Vintage Minor Register Pre-War Prescott 2021

Thanks Ian. The Minor is stricken again... exactly the same issue. This time it's the brand new plug that has popped out. Ended up having to be recovered home about 8 miles. I have another new core plug, just need to bite the bullet and attempt to fit it. I'll use a sealant before fitting this time ...

Re: Vintage Minor Register Pre-War Prescott 2021

Returned home from Pre-War Prescott a little after 8pm this evening. Some will know I had a problem as the second climb of the hill was nearing the Finish line. I had 'smoke' enter the passenger compartment through the gear-lever area and along with the smell both my passenger/navigator and I immedi...

Re: Vintage Minor Register Pre-War Prescott 2021

I have absolutely no idea what this T&T nonsense is all about. We're in the wide-open, outside fresh air of the Cotswolds, not in a dingy little hovel packed in like sardines. And us double-jabbed no longer have to self-isolate either, so even more pointless. You can legally go shopping in a sup...

Re: What fuel for our Minors?

Not looking good for diesel over here. Recent bad press and a change in government policy have effectively all but killed the market. Many cities are looking to ban all but the most recent vehicles fitted with diesel. Also, diesel is now more expensive than petrol, and more and more petrol engines a...

I had by far the smallest (and cheapest) and youngest car there.

Re: What fuel for our Minors?

If my memory serves me right the 98 RON Super at Tesco was a little under £1.50 a litre, whereas the standard Regular 95 is about £1.34 a litre. In old money that's around £6.70 per Imperial gallon and £6.10 for a gallon of regular unleaded. The pub meeting was at The Greedy Goose, Salford, on the m...

Re: What fuel for our Minors?

Took the Minor down to a VSCC pub meeting in the Cotswolds yesterday and managed to cover over 100 miles. On the return home I stopped to refuel at the local Tesco and the regular E5 95 unleaded has already been replaced with E10 95. I chickened out and filled up with the far more expensive E5 Super...

Re: What fuel for our Minors?

I'll admit I know as much as 'Dave down the pub' but given that Ford's Model T was designed to run on 100% ethanol with just a tweak of the carburettor, and also given the fact that a brand of ethanol added (as much as 20%) fuel called Cleveland Discol was sold in the UK from about 1928 to the late ...
