Original Pattern Triple Stud Tyres
There is a new source for
original pattern triple stud 4.00 x 19” tyres, as originally fitted
to OHC Minors
and many other cars of the
late 1920’s and early 1930’s. These tyres are being manufactured
once more
by the Concours Tyre &
Rubber Co. This company is run by Derrick Freathley, an ex-Dunlop
Racing
product manager, and is
starting to manufacture vintage tyres, this tyre being their first offering.
Not only
will they make our cars
look absolutely right once more, but they appear to have a performance
superior to other tyres
currently available.
The brand
new "Concours Classico" 4.00 x 19 tyres are absolute clones (except for
the name) of the
original triple
stud "Dunlop Fort" tyres fitted to all OHC Minors. These are a true
automotive
semi-flat
tread tyre and the sidewalls are very cleanly moulded. The tyres
run far more silently than
the old "trials"
tyres, and sideways traction is vastly improved. Mike Dowley at Sports
& Vintage
Motors (01939/210458)
is currently evaluating a set and is favorably impressed with these tyres.
He will
be receiving his first batch in February, and they will retail for around
£79 each, which compare
s favourably
with the equivalent Dunlops.
