Interesting photograph

Post by Ian Grace »

I just received this photograph for a chap who thought it might be a Morris Minor. It is, in fact, a blue Morris Commercial One Ton truck, registered MW 9025 to Edwin Carey of Stapleford, Wilts in March 1931.

Can any of you steam buffs identify the location?

Well, the photo shows Wishford Station (now Great Wishford), near Salisbury. The photo was taken from the steps of the signal box looking towards the side and rear of the station. The owner of the Morris One Tonner was Edwin Carey (of Stapleford) who was one of the two coal merchants at the station (the other being George Young). The milk float is most probably a farmer from Stapleford who took his milk to Wishford daily. The exact date of the photo is unknown but it is obviously after March 1931.
