Hello Ian,
My gearbox is stamped 77 44 over 74 in front of the turret and 3 over 12 behind the turret. It is a four speed box, not synchronized. I believe without being able to prove it that this gearbox was assembled with my present engine (engine nr. 30261A) in 1932 in Cowley on chassis nr. SV 29849.
My gearbox looses oil at the rearside as well as in front. On tightening the nuts I heard a soft crackling sound which I associate with liquid joining compound that I used to apply a lifetime ago. It had a delicious aroma but I can't find it in hardware stores any more. It is substituted by concoctions made by Locktight and smelling of formic acid. I suspect the expensive Locktight compound of being nothing but cheap silicone aquarium glue with a blue pigment added. Is there any experience in the Forum with silicone glue as a joining compound in car engines?
Kind regards, Jeroen
