Whoa! That's amazing! I didn't even have to put the (url)(/url) or (img)(/img) thingies around the links. And no need to ftp to the website or anywhere else. You just drop the files into your Dropbox directory on your PC and off they go. You then right click on the file in the directory and select 'copy public link', and paste it wherever you want - e-mail, forum, etc. Check out https://www.dropbox.com :o

Ian, don't want to appear negative but doesn't this tie the rally to the same area as the last 2 years, unfair for those who have atended and also anyone in the North? Would it not be better to run the events seperate or have the Nav run/scenic tour in different areas on different weekends? It's quite a long way for us and we look forward to visiting a different place each year!

I agree with Toby.
Another problem which probably is just ours is, that the third weekend in July is right in the middle of our kids summer holiday. As my son is only 6 years old leaving him alone with his sister is not an option.
That means that at least for the next 10 years, coming to the summer rally would be more or less impossible for Monique and me.
Pictures look great!

Halbe

summer hols here, too. We also noticed that it coincided with nearly every road being dug up and that a new policy is to have an escort vehicle that you have to follow through the roadworks-presumably new health and safety rules. there were even lights for sections of pavement being worked on

Toby, Halbe, your point definitely taken, and deserves a considered answer!

Picking dates and places for rallies is always a minefield. The vintage calendar is (happily) so full these days, that clashes cannot be avoided. And then, Summer Rallies need to be held - in the summer! Wiping out weeks (or months?!) of school holidays would put a serious dent in the vintage car calendar. As for the location, having held ten rallies in various parts of the country now, it would appear that the Gloucestershirte/Wiltshire area (Prescott/Bath) draws the best entries. The Leicestershire and East Anglia rallies drew thin entries. Dorset wasn't bad, but was a bit of a one-off and wouldn't normally draw many Minors, I don't think. Having said that, trailers can be a good solution, and not, in my view, to be shunned, as they are in some hard core quarters of the VSCC - particularly for light cars that are not so long-legged as perhaps a 12/50 or 30/98 (or an Aston?!). And fitting two people, luggage, tools, spares and the dog into a 2-seat Minor might have prompted an engaging promotional article by Mileator for the Morris Owner magazine back in the thirties, but isn't exactly comfortable or practical for everyone.

Yes, there are definite downsides to having a regular meet in the same place, but in this case, I am convinced that the plusses outweigh the minuses. Perhaps if we get to the point where we can actually assemble more than a handful of Minors in one place at one time, then we could reconsider, as it might then justify the huge planning, MSA red tape and marshaling effort (the reason why the nav rally was cancelled this year - only 6 entries received by the closing date). The biggest upside of having a regular venue on a regular date is that everyone will know when and where it is, regardless of whether they have seen the publicity or not. Everyone knows that VSCC Prescott is the first weekend in August - at Prescott! Also, regularity allows you to build and develop the event as it becomes known as a regular calendar event. Not holding an untimed day at Prescott since 2005 certainly hurt the entry this time. Plenty of people have told me that they can't wait for next year - but would be disappointed, and probably forget the event entirely if they has to wait until 2015 for the next one!

The good thing about Prescott is that it is within striking distance of great swathes of wonderful countryside - with the prospect of the nav rally/tour swinging south deep into Wiltshire (Cirencester, Malmsbury and on down the Fosse Way), west into the Vale of Evesham, north to Bredon Hill and into Worcestershire, or east into the Cotswold highlands, so there should be plenty of scope to steer the event towards other catchment areas. It always amazes me that the Light Car Welsh is always based at Llandrindod Wells in mid Wales. Take a look at the OS map for the area - there are about three roads on it! How on earth do they manage to vary the route? :o

Having said all that, I traveled just short of 15,000 miles over the Summer Rally weekend - albeit in slightly faster transport than a Minor! :D

Here's another set of Dropboxed images - our Morris Specials Group friends.

If anyone has a request for pics of their car, let me know, and if I have any I'll Dropbox them for you.

I'm currently burning a bunch of compendium image disks of 2010 Summer Rally photos for those members who attended the rally - something I do every year. These disks will go out with M 136 when it is mailed next week. I can't burn and label disks for all 250 members, but I'm happy to burn some more for those who would like one. Just reply to this post if you didn't, or couldn't get to the rally, but would like a disk - it contains about 650 megs of images from several rallygoers who send in their pics after the event.

Talking of photos, the 2011 Register calendar is also in the works. The theme this year will be contemporary images. It will be downloadable from the Members' Area in December. If you have any suitable images - you know what to do. :D

Wot! Nobody wants free stuff? I know you weren't all at the summer rally, but I'm happy to burn a few more rally image disks for anybody who wants one. Just let me know by next weekend, because that is when M 136 and the 2010 Yearbooks get packed for shipping.

Similarly, if you haven't ordered a 2010 Yearbook yet, please let me know by some time next week if you would like a copy - and I should be able to get it to you in time to be a good read over Christmas. 8)
