Seized engine

Post by Highlander »

Further to last weeks message. I had NOT taken all the valves out. I had only taken the inlet valves out as they were easy. I finally freed the pistons by hitting the underside with an oak drift. With the conrods freed from the crank the crank still would not move. Of with the timing chest and all looked well. Chain off and the crank moved! I could then take the pistons out but the pistons were seized solid in their little ends. They came out through. The problem all along was two exhaust valves stuck solid. Had to loosen off the tappets to get some leverage and this did the trick. Failed today with help from Barry Henderson to get the flywheel off so off to Sutton Rebore tomorrow. Inside of engine looks loke new so do not know that happened 30 years ago or did it stick in storeage. Thak to all who offered help. I will rebuild the engine as a spare.
