1929 OHC saloon on EBay

Yet another saloon for restoration on EBay. This one is known to the club , VMR member 177.

The last saloon sold for £3100 a week or so ago.

Owner Godfrey Cross joined the Morris Register in 1983, and so has probably had this Minor salted away since then. It certainly looks that way. Good chance for someone to pick up a good, complete early vintage Minor at a reasonable cost, I would have thought.

The registration number is supposed to be W 808, but there is no record of this number being on a Morris at Swansea. So I wonder whether it has a V5.

A nice bargain for the purchaser , BUT..... where does it leave the value of genuine Vintage Minors ?

Well done Clive, we all had the chance to buy!! I see in todays The Automobile under Discoveries, our old favourite l932 Mirris Minor OU 9888 which appeared many months ago in our own Forum. If you want to see it first join the VMR. Like most of you interested in old vehicles I look at prices - to keep up to date- and I have not seen any reduction in asking prices - do they sell is another matter. In the above magazine there are 6 or7 non original Austin 7 specials all over £5500, someone want £7500 for a 1929 Austin 7 chummy - only needs new hood and sidescreens to finish!!!! I have found that most small car owners do their own work on their cars. If Clive paid £1000 for his saloon, and we have all seen the pictures, a £1000 might see the enginge gearbox rebuilt, the body, seats, windows headlining etc say £2000 just about sees ones money back if sold for £4000. Buying a closed minor to do up for £3000 would you get your money back? Another thing we all tend to forget is the time it takes to resore anything!! We never take the time it takes into consideration when costing total restoration costs. By the way the above costings are just off the top of my head. I am a fettler and cannot make thing, some of you will be able to turn valve guides etc and save that way. My engine cost £950 (plus gearbox) Perhaps Clive might give us some idea what he may spend before the job is finished.
