Clutches etc

Thanks for all the advice Gents following my last post re gearchange problems and crunching into any gear from standstill.

I think i've found the problem,

when looking through the top bellhousing inspection plate I can see 3 fingers with tappet like adjusters pressing onto indents in the plate (dont know proper terminology).

All are knackered looking like someone has butchered them when adjusting previously and one is not doing anything when the clutch is depressed as it looks like the business end has broken off. So I don't think the clutch is disengaging properly as suggested to me within the last post.

My questions are

1 Are these adjusters still available.

2 A local mechanic has suggested I may need to take the whole assembly to be reconditioned / set up at a specialist - would this be the proper thing to do under the circumstances (and are there any recommended businesses out there) ?

3 Finally...... who is the best bet for spares generally on these motors as I will probably replace the thrust bearing/gearbox seals & clutch plate whilst it is out of the car.

Simple answer to all questions - call Mike Dowley at Sports & Vintage on 01939/210458. He will be able to provide all the bits you need. E-mail me and I'll send you all the technical articles on rebuilding the clutch you will need - it is very simple.

Jon, While you have the clutch inbits have a close look at the splines - The spline on the clutch plate and the male spline from the gearbox. Mine were very badly worn and this was the main problem I had - when I depressed the clutch these splines locked aand the clutch would not disengage. You can get new clutch plates with new female spline. The gear box spline are like hens teeth. I have mine built up and re-machined and then had a days work getting the pair to slide without binding.
