anyone any suggestions on how to remove my flywheel I have come to a sudden halt..

Morris originally listed a puller and you can make one up fairly easily. I think Mike Dowley (01939/210458) also stocks them. Other than that, there are unlimited ingenious ways (and some less ingenious) that I have either used or heard of. Some involve heat, some don't. You can clout the flywheel from the front through the starter hole in the bellhousing, turn it through 180 degrees and then clout again to keep things even - so to speak. WD40 is always a good starting point.

I once had real trouble removing a gearbox from a SV 2-seater. I had removed the bolts and let the weight hang on the input shaft which had seized the shaft in the flywheel tail end bearing. No amount of swearing would make it shift. When i asked around, one bright spark asked, "Have you removed the prop. shaft?"!

I am fairly sure that you can hire the puller from Mike Dowley (Sports & Vintage) or alternatively take the block and flywheel to your local engine reconditioner. Ian's heat and brute force should be a last resort.

MMM MG people should also be tried.

In my ignorance, years ago, I ruined (buckled) my crankshaft flange while attempting to remove it.

I then sought advice and found I was able to borrow the correct tool and the job was accomplished fairly easily. I discovered the hard way that it is well worth taking the time to get the right tool. To paraphrase a saying I saw in an aircraft engine booklet - removing the flywheel is like seduction - persuasion is much better than force.

My flange was the later taper fit type which comes free all of a sudden. Presumably the parallel fitting flange is even more difficult to remove ?

I have removed the bearing, wrecking it in the process, and nut, so all i Hve to do is take it to TONY'S job done,

You should have waited !!

I have a blind bearing puller ! As Sam says , " right tool for the job ".

Anyway , we'll see what we can do for the rest of the job.

A picture of the correct tool would probably be of help. A friend who has the correct tool (which he made himself) strongly advises the use of a small tube blanked at one end which fits inside the flange and covers and protects the threads at the end of the crankshaft when the extractor is in use..
