fitting core plugs

hi All,what is the proper pocedure for fitting a core plug?

I fitted one in the head no probs but the one behind the water hose on the drivers side of engine is giving me loads of grief :? :(

All I can tell you is that the hole should be perfectly clean and then You take one good swing with a hammer to fit it - gently going at it with several hits doesn't cut it. You shouldn't need any sealant, but if the seat is badly corroded/pitted, then i would resort to using some.

Thanks ian ,I did the first plug no problem no leak, but second will just not seal I also tried sealant but with no avail, engine now out so will be able to give it a good clout.
