Lucky escape

Post by Ian Grace »

Found on the web. "20th January 1932. The wreckage of a Morris 'baby' car after an accident at Mill Hill, Middlesex, in which none of the occupants were injured."

Looks like a 1929 fabric saloon.

Nice picture of the accident. It looks to be in better condition even so than NG 850 was in after it was crushed by the shed being blown down on her in the early 70s gales.

Interesting to see the tourer at the show. Painted lines on the hubcaps, chrome headlamp rims and windsceen pillars, plus mirror. If I ever do all the other things there are to do, I may have to attend to these on PJ5155
if it's got wheels or chips - it'll cost you dear

Wonderful pictures. The 1932 show car - the painted hubcaps - would they have been the colour of the bodywork or black? Alister.

Ian: good find! The polce image is taken at Hendon Police School and was published in a book I have called 'The Angry Thirties'. The copyright is held by Getty Images and I tried to buy a print. Unfortunately it would have cost at least £75 and so I didn't. If anyone has a print of this picture that they are prepared to scan or loan to me I would be very grateful. Harry found and bought a full plate photo at Beaulieu about ten years ago taken on the same day from a slightly different angle - unfortunately showing less of the car. Getty also own the copyright to the crashed Minor I think.
