Gentlemans smoking companion

Post by Toby »

Heres an item you may be interested in seeing?! I inherited it, it is a combined match holder with striker/ashtray/pipeholder with the morris name on it. It is by Willmots and as you can see, breaks down into components. I have seen a reference to a smokers companion in the back of a large '20s Morris (Oxford, I think) and wonder if it was an accessory or factory fitting?

What do you think? Probably an accessory, I think.

Toby,

This is a Smokers Companion which was fitted on the aluminium dashboard as standard equipment on the 1926 season Morris Oxford cars.
Doubtless available from Morris dealers for the Cowley and other older models. Beware of reproductions...there are many about. Yours looks totally correct though.

it's absolutely pukka! and exquisite with a unreproducable patina! 1926 makes it the same as my late Dads year of birth-serendipity. :D
