Cable brakes

Post by Barry Ashton »

My recently purchased 1932 two seater has been fitted with new front brake cables, but they don't run straight through the pulleys. The chassis mounted pully has been moved forward to take up slack on the cable (?) making a more acute angle to the king pin pully.

Has it : A incorrect pully brackets
B the wrong cables ?

Advice would be appreciated.

Hi Barry,

Could you post, or e-mail me some photos?

I have a complete correct system here that is ready to fit to my McEvoy chassis so can post photos of what the brackets and pulleys, etc. should look like and exactly where they should all be fitted.

It is also important that the pulley posts on the kingpins have the correct offset with respect to the centreline of the pins. There are two types - one for the OHC chassis and one for the SV chassis. The SV pins should have the pulley post on the opposite side of the pin to the cotter slot - see KP 38 below. (KP 37 is the OHC pin, and KP 38 is the pin for the hydraulic-braked cars.)
