1929 Minor tourer KX 2397

Post by Ian Grace »

This highly interesting nickel radiator Minor popped up on the online website Gumtree recently and has just been take down - presume sold.

From what can be gleaned from these photos, it looks remarkably original - other than the hood. Of particular interest is the colour. It looks like this may be the original paint, and if so, it gives us a good idea of the Morris brown used on these cars.

The registration is a Buckinghamshire one from the spring of 1929, so this is quite an early car. The asking price was just £5,500, so someone got a bargain vintage Minor here.

I would appreciate any leads to the new owner.

Update. The new owner is a dealer and I'm working with him to obtain much more information about the car and hopefully be able to find someone in the Register to buy it.

Apparently the car was one owner until recently, when the seller in County Durham offered it for sale.

I'll post more info here as I get it.

If anyone here is interested in it, let me know!

This tourer is going on Car and Classic tonight for £8,995.

The chassis is M4884 and is, in fact known to the Register. It was last heard of in the ownership of L. H. Cole, 32 Rural Way, Mitcham, London, SW16 in 1970. Now it has resurfaced - after half a century! It has a later front bumper and the hood frame is incorrect, but otherwise, what a super opportunity to pick up an early nickel radiator tourer that is up and running.

Contact the seller Robert Dudrenec at robdudrenec@yahoo.co.uk.

Excellent news this morning. The seller, Rob Dudrenec, has reported today that this tourer is being acquired by a Register member who does not currently own a Minor. We may also see it at Prescott in July.

More shortly.

As reported on the home page, hearty congratulations to Register member Steven Fathers who has just become the next custodian of KX 2397.

Now installed with good company - Steven's 1928 Frazer Nash Interceptor. Well done, Steven!

As mentioned on the home page, this tourer is for sale - again! Steven Fathers is offering it for sale, after carrying out a good deal of work on it over the last month, including sourcing and fitting the correct front bumper, fitting a stainless exhaust, sorting the instruments, fitting two new tyres and more. Initially offered at the end of January, it was acquired by a dealer who sold it to Steven. Now Steven has found a very interesting project that will require him to sell the tourer and another car to secure. Contact Steven at sfingarage@hotmail.com for more information and more photos. Offers over £10k.

This remains an excellent opportunity to pick up a rare and unmolested nickel radiator vintage Minor tourer that is ready to go.

Who will step up and take on this really outstanding vintage Minor and write its next chapter?

And sold - again! Hopefully to a permanent home now, with member Richard Prest of Blackburn, Lancashire where it joined Richard's 1926 Bullnose Cowley today. Richard already has his Bullnose booked in for our Summer Rally, but hopes now to bring the tourer to further swell the Minor ranks.
