SV Minor - high oil pressure

Post by Ian Grace »

New member Jonathan Barwick owns a SV 2-seater and reports:

"The oil pressure is very high (50psi at idle and 90psi at 30-35mph even after 15+ miles). I have a new pressure relief valve spring and ball on order from Ian Harris."

There is one cause of this that I know of and that is there is a small grub screw that holds the front main bearing (white metal in a steel sleeve) in position.  Sometimes the grub screw comes out and the sleeve can revolve.  If this happens, the oilways don't line up any more and effectively block oil going to the crank.  The evidence is high oil pressure.  I think he might do well to have the sump off and check. But before he pulls the engine apart, does anyone else have any suggestions or help for Jonathan?
