Front brake actuating cams

Post by NuttyNige »

Hi Folks! Thanks to those, specially our superhuman Ian Grace for all the help regarding getting my wheels sorted out. Nick Mouat Specialist Wheel Builders near Andover [mouat.nick@googlemail.com] were very helpful and I recommend them. I now need some front brake actuating cams, or more specifically, even just the shafts would suffice? Ian Harris doesn't have any.

By the way, a tip; I have renewed the front wheel bearings and were able to buy some standard, seemingly metric, ones which fit and were very cheap. Simply Bearings or Whych Bearings, in Lancashire can oblige. I bought sealed ones because the original ones are poorly protected against dirt ingress on the outer side, just the wheel centre sliding over the hub, and if the little "Morris" bright cap is missing, nothing at all to keep contaminants out from the bearings!

We know that Morris used metric dimensions and threads in the twenties and thirties in the old French Hotchkiss engine plant in Coventry, bearings as well?

Hi Nige,

You should be able to obtain new brake cam levers (and the bronze bushes) from Sports & Vintage Motors.

Contact Mike Dowley at Sports & Vintage at mike@mmmspares.co.uk . Their website can be found at http://www.sportsandvintage.co.uk/

Sports & Vintage carry a comprehensive range of M Type spares, many of which are common to the Minor, both OHC and SV. I recommend you obtain their catalogue when you place your order. And do mention the the Register when you talk to Mike. He is a tremendous supporter of the Register and our cars.

Hello Guys!
People may be interested to know that the brake actuating shafts and cams for the pre-hydraulic braked Morris Minors and M.G. Midgets are out of stock at Sports and Vintage, have been for some time, and the guy was non committal as to when or whether there will be any more made. Ian Harris hasn't got any either. Looks like getting out the welder and grinder to build up the old ones for me? Nige

It's all go here in sleepy Norfolk; Barry Walker M.G. has just sold me some good secondhand brake cams for my 1931 Minor, and a bit of an internet trawl has shown that the M.G. Automobile Company at Bicester Heritage has lots of M.G. M-Type and J-Type stuff as well. Nige
