1930 M Type 2M1281 GJ 5795

Post by Ian Grace »

Can't tell you how excited I am to report that I've just arranged acquisition of this car from Paul Brown in Georgia, USA. After a lifetime of narrowly missing out on a number of M Types, this is my first M (and my first MMM). A lifelong dream come true. Paul joined the Register with this car when he acquired it in 2007, but never got around to doing anything with it.

Evidently the car was shipped to the US in 1965 but may not have turned a wheel since. Paul acquired it in 2007. Apart from a rather scruffy panel job, it looks generally complete and original. It comes with the original logbook and other paperwork so I'm hopeful that I will be able to recover the registration number.

Hopefully it will be returning with Jayne and I to the UK in five years when we retire.

And here's the chassis number which is the clearest I think I have ever seen - very little corrosion, and hopefully this goes for the rest of the chassis frame. You can even see the indent of the round edges of the number stamps of the 2 and the 8. I have never seen that before. The car also retains its original engine which is a bonus as so many M Types are fitted with Minor engines.

Mike Worthington-Williams will be including the M in Finds and Discoveries in the October issue of The Automibile - out in mid-September.
