Wanted: wheel hubs for my M-Type

Post by bhertzog »

Newbie here. Thanks for letting me join the forum.

I want to build an extra set of racing wheels for my 1929 MG M-Type racer. I am looking for 4 (what us M-Type guys call "late style") bolt-on hubs to build the new wheels around. I have been told they are the same as the Minor hubs. 36 spoke. They need to be structurally sound as they will be used for racing, but I don't care what cosmetic condition they are in. They will be cleaned and refinished anyway. Any leads would appreciated. Please email me directly.

I posted a picture of one of my existing wheels below for reference.

Thanks.

Hello Ben,

I can't help with hubs but I am sure you will find some. I suggest you might want to strengthen the wheel hub by welding on some gussets as shown in the pictures below. M type/Minor wheels are very prone to cracking at the junction between the flange and the central tube. The gussets help relieve some of the stress in the corner between the flange and the central tube. I had a batch of 100 cut from 3mm steel using water jet cutting and still have some left over. If you can make it Pre-War Prescott in July I am hoping to be there.
