Thomas,

Great question!

The second wheel you show (the odd one out) is the later type of wheel with the stronger rim to the hub. These stronger wheels were introduced on the OHC Minor at chassis number M29071, which was laid down on 7th October 1930, i.e before start of production of the SV Minor. So all SV Minors were fitted with these later pattern wheels, at least until the introduction of the 1932 season cars at chassis SV5536 in August 1931, when the completely different (and far stronger) Magna wheels were introduced. (Your chassis is SV2612, laid down in March 1931.)

So your car, to be absolutely correct, would require the other four wheels repalcing!

But the additional strength in these later wheels is not something that is that significant these days, with the tiny mileages that we drive our cars, and on perfectly smooth roads, compared to the roads of the thirties! So don't worry about searching for more wheels - your car will give you thousands of miles of pleasure on the ones you have!

(Just remember to specify which wheels you have if you ever need to order spokes - as they are different lengths.)

Tony Margel is the man you need to contact. Tony has a very nice M Type MG and is a close friend of the Register. So he knows all about our wheels. Send him the photo of the wheel you need the spokes for, so you get the correct length.
