early radiator, how to dismantle it

Post by halbe »

Hello,

As you can see my early (1929)radiator shell has a small dent I want to get rid off....
The question is how to dismantle the radiator .I don’t want to damage the actual core just take the shell of the radiator....
Regards,
Halbe

Welcome back Halbe. The very early nickel radiators were soldered into the shells while the later ones were assembled into the shell with countersunk screws down each side. If yours is the earlier variety, I'd recommend sending it away to a specialist for restoration. The condition of the radiator really sets off a good restoration.

Hello Ian,

Getting the radiator out of the early nickel shell was rather simple if you know how.............
Just unsolder the two bottom tabs and saw through the two side connection/tabs
As you can see all is in a rather nice condition except for the dent.......the chrome is not perfect but nicely patinated as they say, anyway to good to renew....

Good job Halbe. I have never dismantled one of these early radiators - had assumed it would be more difficult.
