There was also a comprehensive thread on the topic on the MMM forum, titled 'Bosch 009 Distributor Conversion' that was started on 10/4/2006.

Despite my misgivings, Oliver Richardson convinced me to install a VW distributor on my 1931 M-type Sportsmans Coupe. This has a heavier body than the open cars and so can feel a bit sluggish. I was reluctant to replace the "original" distributor as it had been on the car since I bought it in 1960. Oliver clinched the argument by observing that the distributor may well have been over 50 years old but came from a Ford!

The new distributor has made an amazing difference to performance. The car starts immediately, picks up better and more smoothly and runs happily at a higher speed. I would like to say that we flew up the Prescott hill but that was certainly our impression from inside the car. That the Dunkitehill Bends (one of Ian's little tortures) were a somewhat different story cannot be attributed to the change.
