Perhaps not the most exciting topic to try and kick start some disccussion on the forum but anyway...
I took the lucas 6v. starter motor off my side valve engine with the intention of cleaning it and giving it a paint. Having cleaned it, there are signs that it was originally had a sort of dull nickle plated finish. This original finish was probably not very durable. Almost without exception restored cars have black painted starter motors. Has anyone else got an original untouched motor who could confirm the correct finish.
I would also be interested to know what type of finish was originally applied to the 1934 steel brake shoes (morris 8 type).
The rest of the car is a special and far from original but as more cars are restored I imagine this is the type of detail that could be easily lost.
