Fan bearing

Post by lee_rob »

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the size of the fan bearing is for a 31 engine? I think its a Hyatt type bearing but I am not sure what the size is meant to be as mine is so worn,

Thanks

Lee

Not sure - I'll check when I get home.

The Hyatt roller beraring was introduced at engine U10126, before which it was a bush, so if you cannot source the right bearing, a bush will fit the bill, provided it has a grease groove and is kept lubricated.

My engine number is 31672A so I think it is correct, not sure what the "A" means after the number

Lee,

Yes, you definitely should have the bearing, but you could fit a bush if you cannot source the bearing. Mind you, you'll lose tons of points in a concours. :D

And the A refers to very small oversizes during manufacture, so can be ignored. Most engines are A, a few are B and I have seen a very few C's.

I am still having problems with this fan bearing, I managed to source a new one of the same size but the fan still dances all over the place so I think I am going to have to replace it with a bush of some sort.
