Re: Dynamo Info

Post by Toby »

I have had my "rebuilt" dynamo checked by someone with a good reputation, I need another one done plus a starter motor for the tourer so asked them to check out my rebuilt one to see if it is the cause of my electrical problems at night. It isn't putting out what it should and apart from new brushes and a coat of paint it appears the segments weren't undercut but the armature may have been skimmed. :(
I am having it repaired, the starter is being rebuilt as a 4 brush one and the other dynamo for the tourer is having rewound coils, new armature, brushes and bearings etc. it is going to cost over 5 times the price from classic and vintage but at least it will outlast me and the car!
I know people have felt faint at the cost of rebuilds but Tony is right, you get what you pay for....
if it's got wheels or chips - it'll cost you dear
