VSCC Lakeland Trial this weekend

Post by Ian Grace »

The VSCC will be holding their traditional trial in the Lakes this weekend, based at the Wheatsheaf Inn in Lorton.

The picture below adorned the front cover of their October Newesletter. It shows some of the lakeland competitors waiting at Pilleth Farm where there were two hills and where large crowds used to gather to watch on the Saturday afternoon - this being a one-day trial. After a change of hands, Pilleth no longer featues on the trial, many sections of which are on Forrestry Commission and at the infamous Drumhouse slate mine atop Honnister Pass. I was there that day as I attended every year back in the late seventies and early eighties. Jim Peacop was a regular with hsi 1930 tourer, as was Frank Higgins with is SV 2-seater bodied 1930 Minor.

I think the M Type behind the Frazer Nash in the foreground is that of Michael Nixon from Cockermouth. And the Minor saloon at the back is Rosemary and Richard Burke's JA 1083 - later sadly destroyed to make a tourer.
