90 or 140 in the gearbox and back axle?

Post by Ian Grace »

Can someone remind me which it is? I'm thinking 90 is fine, but I think 140 is specified soemwhere? The lube chart simply says use Shell gear oil.

Not sure which is should Be Ian, but to my mind, the thicker the better.... it might stop it finding its way out quite so quick...!

I use 90 in the gearbox and 140 in the axle, I found that 140 in the gearbox can be a bit sticky when cold. 8)

I used 140 in both but agree with Trevor that the gearbox needs warming up before you get a smooth gear change.

I use 140 in both, non ep of course, I also noticed the lube chart is a bit light on sae numbers but cross referenced with another book, possibly the pitmans book of the minor or the morris register book and got the viscosity from there.
if it's got wheels or chips - it'll cost you dear
